How I lost 17 pounds, in 2 months while breastfeeding

There are 2 things that I believe helped me lose the weight, Keto diet and exercise! Because following a keto diet is restricting your carbs some people may believe it’s not ok for breastfeeding mothers, I believe you should do your own research to decide if it is right for you! Personally it worked great for me as you can tell by the title of this post and I did not lose my milk supply!

Eating Keto, high fat, moderate protein, low carb, helped me curb my cravings for unhealthy foods. I was constantly craving sweets and feeling hungry all the time. When I started eating healthier and higher fats I felt satisfied and no longer thought about food all day long. Because I’m breastfeeding I keep my carb count to 50 grams a day. When I just started eating keto I counted my macros to make sure I still got enough carbs just to make sure my milk supply was still strong. If I didn’t have enough I ate a banana at the end of the day, bananas are high in carbs! Did you know that?? What’s interesting though, is breastfeeding baby’s are on keto. Your milk is high fat, moderate protein, low carb! Pretty cool huh? 🙂 When I found this out it encouraged me to eat that way so that my milk was perfect for my precious little boy. I also counted my calories to make sure I wasn’t eating less than 1,800 calories a day. Eating too few calories can hinder your milk supply. Not drinking enough water can also slow down milk production so I made sure to drink a lot especially when I began exercising.
I did a lot of research before starting Keto, Dr. Eric Berg on YouTube was my main source! He taught me everything I needed to know about following the ketogenic diet.
My daily breakfast looks like this:
  • 3 Eggs
  • 3 Bacon strips
  • Half avocado
  • Coffee with cream and sugar (sugar has 8 g of carbs which I included in my macros, because I’m breastfeeding I didn’t exchange regular sugar for a zero calorie substitute like most do while following the keto diet)
My daily lunch looks like this:

  • Steak, chicken or salmon
  • Steamed broccoli or cauliflower
( Oven Roasted Whole Chicken)
If I’m feeling hungry in between my go-to snacks are:
  • Cheese stick
  • Almonds


I went into Marshall’s determined to find something to help me lose weight, I wanted to join the gym but having 3 small kids it seemed nearly impossible. To save time and money I found the simply fit board. Along with that I purchased 2, 5-pound dumbbells. I came home, went on YouTube to the company’s website and did the simply fit 21 day challenge. I lost about 7 lbs after 21 days following the keto diet and doing the challenge. I continued to do the challenge even after the 21 days because I loved how it worked out my whole body. But doing something repetitive can get boring so I moved on to doing my own workouts. I found different exercises on Pinterest and work out for about 25 minutes or more a day now, depending on how the kids are being that day!
